The development of self-adhesive labels in China can be traced back to the late 1970s
Initially, self-adhesive label printing technology, equipment and materials were mainly introduced from Japan, and in the late 1970s, Japan's Fuji Paper Company (the predecessor of Linde Company) imported self-adhesive label materials and corresponding processing equipment and technology together with the coastal cities represented by Tianjin and Guangzhou. At the same time, other Japanese manufacturers have also entered China.
During this period, the self-adhesive label printing workshop is usually a confidential department, due to the dependence on imports of equipment and materials, the price of self-adhesive labels is equivalent to dozens of times that of the present, and general enterprises are therefore deterred and continue to use pasted labels.
By the 1980s, China's self-adhesive label printing process is very backward, most label products are based on text lines and simple color patterns, and almost all are letterpress printing in the printing process, mainly using resin inks.
In the 1990s, self-adhesive labels quickly occupied the huge packaging industry in the middle and senior sales market, and thousands of private enterprises engaged in self-adhesive label packaging and printing in China greatly promoted the development of the field.
